Hydrolab Activated Carbon Air Filters NEW!
Eliminate unwanted odours
Unwanted odours are one of the biggest challenges to the indoor gardener, whether you are growing chili peppers, orchids or your favourite herbs or spices. Air extraction is a critical element to a healthy grow room and should be used whenever possible. Extracted air from a grow room can often be quite pungent and can be quickly eliminated by the use of a carbon air filter.
A carbon air filter works by using activated granules of carbon through which the smelly air from your crop is extracted with the use of an extraction fan (such as an Lti RVK or Ruck). Use a Carbon Filter on the inlet side of an extraction fan for odour free air on the outlet.
Specifically designed
Hydrolab filters use the very best activated carbon specifically manufactured for air treatment / odour removal.
These filters will remove all unwanted odours as extracted air passes through them.
Selecting the right size carbon filter
We recommend that you renew the air within your grow room once every 2-3 minutes (30-20 times per hour).
To understand which size carbon filter is appropriate, first you need to calculate the volume of your grow room using the following formula:
Grow room Width x Depth x Height = Volume, for example:
Grow room 1.2m Wide x 1.2m Deep x 1.8m High = 2.59 cubic metres (2.59m3)
Now that you have calculated your grow room's volume, you now need to find out the recommended amount of air that needs to be renewed based on its volume. To do this use the following formula:
Grow Room Volume x Air exchanges = Recommended volume of air exchanges per hour, for example:
Grow room volume of 2.59m3 x 30 air exchanges per hour = 77.7 cubic metres per hour (77.7m3/hr), meaning that the 160m3/hr rated carbon filter is more than ideal for this size room.
Getting the best out of a Hydrolab Filter
Optimum operating performance can be achieved in an area with a relative humidity of around 80% and below. The best place to suspend your carbon filter is near to the ceiling of your grow room and it must always be suspended within the grow room, never outside. You will need to attach your filter to a suitable extraction fan, ideally using a length of ducting, some duct clips or duct tape.
Carbon Filters come complete with a fabric sleeve. This is to protect the carbon from dust particles which may damage the carbon and reduce the effectiveness of the filter. It is important to ensure that the fabric sleeve is always fitted. Once the sleeve becomes clogged and black in colour it is time to replace it or pop it in the washing machine. If you keep your fabric sleeve in good condition the carbon within will be effective for at least 12 months under normal conditions. After this time you may notice a reduction in effectiveness - this is normal but means it is time for the filter to be replaced.
